History
Ortaca, which was within the borders of Caria in the Ancient Age, was captured by the Macedonian King Alexander the Great in 334 BC. Later, Ortaca, which is located on the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts, owned by the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra, remained under Egyptian rule for a while. B.C. It comes under Roman rule in 192. When the Anatolian gates were opened to the Turks with the 1071 Malazgirt Victory of the Seljuk Turks, Ortaca, like other Anatolian regions except Istanbul, left the borders of Eastern Rome and came under the sovereignty of the Seljuk Turks.
Between 1261 and 1451, during the Anatolian Principalities Period, Ortaca remained under the rule of Menteşeoğulları. In 1451, during the reign of Mehmet the Conqueror, Ortaca was included in the Ottoman lands along with the Menteşe Principality. It was not affected by the occupation during the years of the War of Independence. After the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, which ruled for 600 years, it took its place under the name of Terzialiler Village in the Republican Period.
Due to the fact that it is between Muğla and Fethiye, the people conveyed the name of the Terzialiler to ORTACA, to the Governor of Muğla, Recai Güreli. While it was a town connected to Köyceğiz before, it gained the status of a district in 1987.
