Fethiye is located in the west of the Mediterranean Region and in the east of Muğla province. It is surrounded by Seydikemer district in the east, the Mediterranean Sea in the south, Dalaman district in the northwest, and Denizli in the north.
Climate

History
Fethiye, which was called Telmessos in Antiquity, is the most important city in the west of the Lycian civilization, one of the oldest of the Anatolian civilizations. Although there is no definite information about its establishment, it is estimated from the available documents that the history of the city dates back to the 5th century BC.
Telmessos, which was famous as the city of soothsayers in Antiquity, is established on a wide area stretching from the slopes of the mountain on which Fethiye rests, to the bay. When the prophets of Telmessos were to prophesy, they would climb on the rocks and be inspired by the blue waters of the Mediterranean. Maybe that’s why there are so many legends about Fethiye.
According to a legend, the city was founded by the Sun God Apollo. Apollo fell in love with the little girl of Agenor, King of Phoenicia. Disguised as a cute dog, the king steals her daughter’s heart and they get married. They have a son and they name him Telmessos. Apollo names the city he founded after his son.
Telmessos, together with all the Lycian and Carian cities, came under Persian rule in 547 BC and became the Satrap of the kingdom. 5th century BC. Telmessos, which joined the Antique-Delos Union, which was established in the middle of the middle, continued its relations with the union until the 4th century BC, although it left the union as an independent city after a while.
In the winter of 344-343 BC, Alexander the Great captured the city. It joined the Kingdom of Pergamon by the Romans in 189 BC.
It entered the Lycian federation in 133 BC and became one of the six most important cities of the federation. Byzantine Emperor II in the 8th century. In honor of Anastasios, its name is changed to Anastasiapolis. In 1284, Menteşeoğulları joined the Ottoman lands in 1424 and took the name Meğri. Its current name was given in 1934 after Martyr Pilot Fethi Bey.
